Open Supervised Device Protocol - OSDP

Replacing legacy Card Readers with OSDP compliant versions or installing new OSDP compliant readers and devices which need to operate with existing legacy Wiegand control panels.
In cases where a new OSDP compliant reader is installed into an existing traditional Wiegand, Strobed,F/2F,etc. system, the following scenarios can used. There are a couple of different approaches. Although most OSDP compliant readers have a Wiegand output mode, there are advantages to converting all of the devices at the door or gate to an OSDP interface.
Reader Only - The image above shows just the reader being converted to an OSDP interface while the remaining devices simply connect with dedicated wires back to the control panel. The OSDP-1000 can be mounted at or inside the control panel's cabinet or be located at the reader location. In the latter case, the Wiegand signals are still restricted to the 500 foot limit. The OSDP-1000 module is configured for "Panel Interface Mode" via DIP switch.

All Devices - As mentioned earlier, converting all devices at the door or gate is recommended since this adds supervision of all signals. It also sets up the site for migration to an OSDP Control Panel in the future. Since the OSDP-1000 is mounted in a secure enclosure not vulnerable to tamper from the un-secure side of the door or gate, all signals can be terminated to it and supervised. The OSDP Reader has it's own polling address as does the second OSDP-1000 module configured for "Remote Interface Mode". See image below:
